Inmate Sex Change?!

Earlier today, when I was at the gym, I was watching the nightly news while on the treadmill.  The news anchor reported that an inmate, named Michael, is trying to pass a contract that would allow him to get a sex change.  Michael would like to become "Michelle."  I support him if he wants to do this, but if he really wants the sex change, he should pay for it with his own money.  Somehow, he thinks that he community will fund this operation of his.  Keep in mind that Michael is in jail for murder.  He murdered his wife, and now wants to become a woman.  I don't think the tax payers should have to support such an operation for a murderer.  It's ridiculous that the story has even made it as far as to make it on the nightly news.  This case should have been dropped long ago, because it's never going to happen.  Community members have much more to worry about as far as their taxes go.  For example, they could be supporting the schools and parks with these same tax dollars that Michael believes should go towards funding his sex change.  What do you think of the situation?

The real issue is that Americans are spending taxpayers' money like never before, just to house and feed and provide basic health care to the largest percentage of our population ever in prisons and jails. Do you know that more than 1 in every 100 Americans is in jail? And that taxpayers spend on average $23,876 per prisoner per year? America is the world's #1 incarcerator, ahead of China and Russia. So don't Americans need to address this problem? It might be because judges hand out tough sentences, like the 3-strikes and you are --what is it--in for life in California? But the real issue it seems to me is why so many people break the law. Who are these people? Poor, uneducated, young people for the most part. Better attention to the needs of poor children, better education for all, might break the cycle and put more Americans on a productive path, not the path of drugs and crime.

Ok, since when have inmates been able to ask for things like this? I think it is absolutely absurd that someone who has been incarcerated for a crime as horrendous as murder to even think that it might go through. When your in jail, you are paying a penalty; Why should the government reward you? No, this should never have even made the news. The second you become an inmate you lose most of your constitutional rights, and the right to have a sex change, while not constitutional, should also be lost.

I think that this post is unique. I like posts that stray from the normal ones. It immediately grabbed my attention because of the title, "Inmate Sex Change!?". However, I think that you could have added a little more information to the post. You could have research how many people are in jail, and how much we taxpayers pay for them to be in jail.

I do agree with you though. I think that it is rediculous that a story like this made headlines. Why should an inmates longing to be a woman affect us? That is a personal decisions, and the idea that someone wants other people to fund this crazy idea is absurd.

I think that this post is going to be good for your blog paper because you have a lot of potential with it. Just try developing it more.
